Team Hammer Fever ended the tourney with. 12 sharks that count ,,,,i think.JD Hammer had another blacktip but we have no picture of that one so it does not count and I had another blaccktip that the tourist messed up trying to take the picture -and it does not count as well.Jimmy JD's son caught the 8 foot 6 inch bull but he was not in the tournament so it does not count either.
no disrespect in the least bit.. im happy to see anyone catch fish.. but does team hammer fever have a different bull that did count? im confused.. let me know...
we caught 20 blacktips total, 1 nurse, and 1 lemon that some guy has the picture of.when cape haze rods said they caught those fish i thought it wasent even worth posting our pictures because it takes me a while to post pics because i am not fast on the computer

This is from NOAA
Two common sharks that confuse fishermen and biologists alike are the dusky and sandbar sharks, Carcharhinus obscurus and Carcharhinus plumbeus. Because proper identification is vital to the success of our tagging program, we have in the past provided information that separates these two species from each other.
The sandbar and dusky sharks share many characteristics. The teeth are similar in number, size, and shape. Size of eyes, gills, mouth, and nostrils are also similar, as are most body proportions. There are differences in the shape, size, and location of the fins, although these features are subtle. The dusky's fins are proportionately smaller and swept back, whereas the fins of the sandbar are broader and the first dorsal is higher and originates further forward. The two sharks are easily separable when the skin is viewed through a 10X hand magnifier. The scales on the dusky shark are overlapping and shingle-like, while those on the sandbar shark are separated and more like cobblestones.
Sharks, like other animals, change shape and appearance as they grow and mature. Their bodies thicken, fins become relatively longer and distances between the fins appear to change as the sharks reach maximum sizes. As a consequence of these changes, young sandbar and dusky sharks look very similar even though the adults look quite different. The smaller sizes (3-4 feet total length) are most similar and nearly impossible to tell apart in the water. At 5 to 6 feet, the dusky is a trimmer shark than the sandbar, with sickle-shaped fins and a longer, lower caudal fin. The first dorsal fin on a 5 foot dusky is further back and more rounded than on one of 3-4 feet. The overall shape of the sandbar shark is less changeable with size, although the fins become slightly broader and the girth is proportionately larger than a dusky of the same size. Otherwise, sandbars keep the same husky shape from juvenile to adult. The maximum sizes reached by these species can also help to identify them. Sandbar sharks mature at 5-6 feet and rarely reach 8 feet or 200 pounds. Dusky sharks mature at 8 feet, reach 10-12 feet and several hundred pounds. Consequently, a 250+ lb. shark is definitely not a sandbar shark; it could be a dusky, but it should be keyed out in the Anglers' Guide to Sharks or other literature.
Props to all that participated in this gig and especially to those who organized it, some impressive/awesome catches - indeed - NICE Bulls.
Great hooking up with Team Hard Hookers, Jimmy, James and Joe too (sucks bad about that HH Bro) and nice Bull, James. A pleasure meeting Travis, Team Cape Haze Rods as well. Man that 7'er Sandbar is a PIG - WOW, good 'goin you guys. I think the organizers 'outta think about including this species next year if this gig is 'gonna be put on again.
Sandy Info:
Pretty freakin' terrible picture of the dead one that looks mutated - at the top of the page (I don't know what the hell that thing is looks like a pregnant Dusky - must be a mistake) - BUT some great info further down - otherwise. Especially the line drawings/illustrations.

Surfrat AKA(Tom) great hangn w/ u as well...Once again Thanks 4 all the help. Travis I think everyone agrees dusky's and bars are very difficult to tell apart But the one thing that always gives it away 2 me is the long peck fins as seen in Will's Pics..I am still interested in what the doctor thinks of the fish. Non the less it was a great showing by everyone nice Job Greenie you realy did have us all beat..If this is what can be produced in a week by 5 teams imagine what we are gona see in the BIG HAMMER CHALANGE!!!! Cant wait and GOOD LUCK to all who enter...Also Thanks Colby 4 getting us all outof the house and sharkin after a cold Florida winter.. Joe :Team Hard Hookers
I have had them on the beach together and the sandbar's dorsal is much larger and more forward. the dusky is a skinner 6' fish because it isnt mature. a 6' sand bar is much more robust than a 6' dusky. I think the sandbar and the dusky should be counted the same due to ID problems. A sandbar fights hard and should not be dis credited. Look at my post at the botom of page 3. NOAA sent me that chart in 98 after one of my so called duskys washed up dead with a tag. It was a sandbar. After I saw the info i got an up close side by side ID.
